Abstract

The Dutch Revolution against the Habsburgs from Austria, which later gave birth to a new country, made the Dutch aware of the importance of higher education. The University of Leiden began construction in 1575. The campus stands on the land of the confiscated Catholic monastery. The importance of the book, made the founder immediately started the project of building a library. Plantin Polyglot or KingBibel, printed by Christopher Plantin, was presented by Willem van Orange to the library in the first year of the library's construction. The library was officially opened and operational on October 31, 1587. Shortly until a decade after the library was opened, on June 27, 1596, a Dutch fleet led by Cornelis de Houtman arrived in Banten. After that more Dutch fleets entered the archipelago. Slowly the produce of the archipelago a region was monopolized by the Dutch who foundedVereenigde Oostindische Compagnie (VOC- Dutch East-India Company) on March 20, 1602. The Portuguese, which had initially succeeded in the Moluccas, had also been driven back by the Dutch through the VOC. Dutch power began to stick in the south of the archipelago. The Dutch fleet group that had just arrived to Asia, almost never returned empty-handed. In addition to selling merchandise such as spices, ship officers also took home the maps they had made on their voyages. Even ancient manuscripts from the land they explored were also brought home. Whatever knowledge the Dutch sailors brought from Indonesia would certainly be valuable to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Not only map of spice islands, but also local languages. However, efforts to create regional language dictionaries in Indonesia only began to be massive carried out in the XIX century. The making of dictionaries often involves zending spiritualists in spreading Christianity. For example Benjamin Matthes who made the Bugis-Makassar language dictionary. It was from Matthes that the great Indonesian "La Galigo" literary act, The manuscripts, was carried to the Netherlands. Other evangelists who helped compile the dictionary,J.H. Neumann, who made the Karo Batak dictionary in Latin script. In addition to Karo, Bugis and Makassar languages, dictionaries of other regional languages were made during the colonial period. These dictionaries will certainly help study ancient Indonesian manuscripts that have been transported to Leiden. The first catalog of this library appeared in 1595. The collection is increasingly growing. This library later has several sections. The Library of The Leiden University it selft is located at Witte Singel 27, then East Asia Library at Arsenaalstraat 1, Law Library at Steenschuur 25, Library of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Wassenaarseweg 52, All are still in the city of Leiden. In addition, this library has a Library Learning Center in The Hague and in Jakarta,there is a KITLV in Rasuna Said Kav S-3, Jakarta. Indonesia.

Since 1851 Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal -, Land - en Volkenkunde (KITLV - Royal Institute of Language, Land and Ethnology) has specialized in gathering information and advancing research on the present and past conditions of the former Dutch colony and surrounding areas. KITLV, based in Leiden, opened its representative in Jakarta in 1969. KITLV-Jakarta collaborated with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) to conduct various scientific activities and publish scientific works on Indonesia and Southeast Asia in general.

Finally, KITLV Library has joined the Leiden University Library and the KITLV-Jakarta office has been diverted under the auspices of the Leiden University Library and is a legal entity of the Foundation in 1 July 2014. As a library and research center, the Leiden University Library collects the publication of books and magazines in the field of social and human sciences from government, private, university, or public and open commercial publications that are stored in the Leiden University Library in original, digital and / or microfilm forms. Our collections and publications cover the humanities and social sciences that focus on Southeast Asia - specifically Indonesia. Ranging from colonial history to contemporary social issues, the Leiden University Library has a very large and varied collection.

With its office in Jakarta, it signifies the importance of the meaning of Indonesia in order to collect collections for this institution. Activities at KITLV-Jakarta are operationally divided into three categories, namely collection, digitization, and publication. KITLV-Jakarta also held exhibitions with themes according to their profiles and book launches. KITLV-Jakarta carries out an academic essay publishing program together with Indonesian publishers. Most of these publications are in the form of translations, but there are also new publications, such as the Indonesian edition of the Dutch-Indonesian Dictionary published by KITLV-Jakarta in collaboration with Gramedia. There are acquisition activities for Monash University and Australian National University (ANU). The KITLV-Jakarta office is also the permanent representative office of Leiden University in Indonesia. The purpose of this office is to enhance academic collaboration with partner institutions in Indonesia and function as a center for information on courses offered by Leiden University.

3. Library

In this library link, it is explained about the library service time and the entire collection at the Jakarta KITLV library including KTLV Leiden. The KITLV-Jakarta library has a large enough collection of references. Collections cover the fields of humanities and social sciences, such as literature, linguistics, history, politics, social, and other reference materials such as dictionaries. Conclusion

Koninklijk Instituut voor Taal-, Land-en Volkenkunde (KITLV) Jakarta or the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies (Publishing of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Caribbean and Southeast Asian Studies) states that libraries must be responsive to technological developments and enhance the process of digitation for dissemination of collection collections library. In the context of disseminating information on Indonesia's historical collections or many things about Indonesia, the transformation from books or documents to digital forms must be increased.

How to keep up with new technology development 'because it is developing so rapidly, there are new ones, and whether the new 10 years into the future can still be applied, it is a challenge but it certainly happens, so inevitably we must also follow the transformation this digital. Therefore, KITLV will digitize more physical form collections into digital format. With metadata from documents or library collections, digital forms can be obtained that can be disseminated and accessed throughout the world community easily.

Digital KITLV library is also something that must be developed because the world community currently has a lot of access to information digitally. Such needs must be facilitated by the library, so that information can be obtained from anywhere and at any time and not limited to location.

Moreover, the current millennial generation is familiar with the internet world, so digitizing collections about Indonesia will make it easier for those who are accustomed to using information and communication technology tools and will also make it easier for them to read, download or open information. Thus, information about the history and development of Indonesia from the KITLV-Jakarta library is not limited to books or physical documents, but rather to digital forms. So there is a concern that the new generation does not know books or manuscripts but that means they have to do the transformation to show the tools they used to use. At present KITLV-Jakarta is an institution that holds the most complete collection of Indonesian history in the world, which is part of the Leiden University Library.
